The Brief
This short course on On Page SEO was developed as a part of the Digital Fixers’ master curriculum.
The Problem: Small business owners create blogposts, product pages and other content on their websites but unfortunately their content does not always result in an increase in traffic, as it is not optimised for SEO.
The Audience: Small business owners and clients of Digital Fixers.
The Solution: A short course on Rise to be embeded into the learning platform (not a traditional LMS) for clients.
The Process
Analysis: Quantitative and qualitative data was gathered from clients about their content creation habits and their knowledge of driving traffic to websites through content optimisation. Althought they understood the bigger picture of SEO, they lacked the practical skills to apply this to their own content. Data was gathered through surveys, informal discussions and polling.
Design: I began the design phase by conducting interviews with Subject Matter Experts and then creating an action map which identified the key actions that learners should take on their own pages and content. I then divided this information into bitesize ‘chunks’ (as informed by adult learning theories) and added assessment opportunities throughout, including graphics that allowed the learners to explore the content in a safe way. In designing this piece, the key for me was to ensure that there was no extraneous information to avoid cognitive overload. Digital Fixers has a very specific tone of voice in their trainings and I reused this language throughout the project.
Development: I wire-framed an outline in Rise 360 itself, as this was the most efficient way to iterate the project and get rapid. I sought feedback from Lesley Walsh from Digital Fixers, as well as the SMEs that I had worked with. I used the Digital Fixers’ brand guidelines, even in prototypes. I sourced one graphic depicting a pathway as the main graphic in the whole project. In addition, I reused video content from other learning experiences that Digital Fixers had created at their request.
Implementation: As Digital Fixers uses an online platform that does not use an LMS, a SCORM package was not needed. This was uploaded to AWS to share.
Evaluation: This is detailed in the design document and will be evidenced in the traffic reports that learners generate before, during and after implementation of the course.
